چکیده

Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) specifications utilize the multiple paths capabilities between the sender and receiver for retransmission of lost data chunks and as a backup in case of primary path failure. Under normal conditions, all data chunks are sent on the primary path chosen by the SCTP user during the transport connection initiation. In this paper, we address in detail various aspects related to extending and engineering SCTP in order to utilize the available paths for simultaneous transmission of data chunks, while maintaining the SCTP congestion control on each path so as to ensure fair integration with other traffic in the network. The extended SCTP, referred to as Load-Sharing SCTP (LS-SCTP), is able to aggregate the bandwidth of all the active transmission paths between the communicating endpoints. LS-SCTP monitors the paths, and accordingly it chooses the paths that are suitable for load sharing. LS-SCTP retransmission mechanism accelerates the delivery of missing data to the receiver in order to prevent stalling the transport connection while waiting for missing data chunks. Simulation results show that LS-SCTP is extremely beneficial for networks with limited bandwidth, high loss rate and failure prone links. q 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Bandwidth aggregation with SCTP

In this paper we present a number of modifications to the recently adopted by IETF Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP), that allow bandwidth aggregation over the multiple interfaces of a host. We show that it is possible to implement a number of algorithms for bandwidth aggregation, with only a small number of modifications to the base SCTP protocol. Our simulation results clearly depic...

SCTP over Satellite Networks

The Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) has recently been standardized as a new transport layer protocol in the IP protocol suite. In addition to the core features of TCP, SCTP incorporates a number of advanced and unique features which are not available in TCP. The objective of this paper is to investigate the suitability of SCTP for data communications over satellite links. We describ...

BATCP: Bandwidth-Aggregation Transmission Control Protocol

The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is the most used transport protocol to exchange reliable data between network devices. A considerable number of extensions have been implemented into TCP to achieve better performance. In this paper, we will present, describe, implement, and analyze a new protocol extension called Bandwidth-Aggregation TCP (BATCP), which enables the concurrent use of netw...

Priorities In Stream Transmission Control Protocol (SCTP) Multistreaming

This paper 1 introduces per-stream priorities as a method of decreasing delays of important data during periods of low bandwidth availability. We group streams into priority classes and propose a scheduling algorithm to prioritize data among these classes. Per-stream priorities are useful in applications sending different types of data, such as Instant Messaging (IM) systems. We discuss the det...
